Established in 1989, the Paris-Henry
County Heritage Center is housed in
Cavitt Place, the most prestigious
mansion in Paris when it was built in
1916. Cavitt Place retains its original
painted-glass windows, marble staircase
and floors, ceiling and wall murals, and
mahogany woodwork. This Italian
Renaissance two-story home was called by
one state historical expert “the jewel
in the crown of Paris,” and is situated
in the historic North Poplar Historic
District.
The Heritage Center has temporary
exhibits and a permanent exhibit
featuring the history of Henry County.
The Center also has an oral history
video library, a tape-guided historic
walking tour of downtown Paris and North
Poplar Street and other research
resources. The gift shop features books,
memorabilia and items made in and/or
related to Henry County and Tennessee.
The Heritage Center is open Tuesday
through Friday, 10:00 – 4:00 p.m. and on
Saturday, 10:00 – 2:00 p.m. Special
tours and times can be arranged by
reservation. The building is also
available for private parties, including
weddings. Admission to the museum is
free to the public. For more
